New workshop series expected to set new food trends

TasteSetters, a new workshop series that celebrates the thriving food culture in the Philippines, is slated to put a spotlight on the country’s emerging food scene that is slowly getting recognition worldwide. In the last two years alone, international taste arbiters have pegged Filipino cuisine for its interesting flavours that is both pleasing and surprising to the palate. The Smithsonian Magazine, in 2015, dubbed Filipino Cuisine as “Asian Fusion...even before Asian Fusion became a thing."

In 2016, the Philippines played host to a number of foreign chefs who all fell in love with Filipino food. Forbes Magazine, in turn, has named Filipino food as one of the top 10 food trends last year. Through Tastesetters,

Buoyed by the rising appreciation for Filipino food and ingenuity behind the kitchen, organizers behind TasteSetters are pegging the workshop series as an avenue where new food trends will be discovered. Understanding that the                 booming culture and appreciation for good food will eventually lead to the search for what’s new and what’s fresh, TasteSetters is meant to challenge and thrill foodies as they discover new flavours during the workshop. Local culinary enthusiasts and food entrepreneurs also get the chance to be front and center as new food and flavour trends emerge.

SySu International Inc., is the force behind TasteSetters. Recognized as the home of some of the country’s biggest food brands, SySu developed the workshop series as part of its mission to develop a noteworthy program that elevates the art and science of food. SySu is making this possible through a solid win-win partnership not only with the international brands it carries, but also with food industry stakeholders.

TasteSetters will bring together all commissary owners and food entrepreneurs, research and development experts of food manufacturing companies, experienced chefs and business owners to be part of the workshop series.  The workshop provides an opportunity for additional learning through a more hands-on and experiential approach made possible by tapping recognized chefs and foodie experts as subject matter experts and speakers for the rest of the TasteSetters workshop.

By being part of Taste Setters, the attendees will gain the opportunity to be on the forefront in the introduction of emerging food trends which, in turn, positively impacts the country’s thriving food industry. This also provides an opportunity for aspiring food entrepreneurs and even established names in the food industry to work together and even opens a possible avenue for collaboration with SySu’s roster of food brands.

For SySu, whose current portfolio boasts of fast-selling food brands, the work shop provides an opportunity to give back to the local food industry which also comprises a big chunk of sales for SySu’s roster of international food products.

The workshop also served as an opportunity to showcase various SySu brands and how each brand was instrumental in creating new flavours. The workshop series was divided into five key topics, including:
